Upright No Frost and chest freezers

Indesit Deep Freezer Repair

Indesit deep freezer repair is urgent once food starts to soften, so begin with three quick checks: is an alarm or E9 showing, is the door fully closed, and has the power just come back? Send us the model from the label and a photo of the display or lights. We repair the upright No Frost freezers sold in Egypt, such as INU6012CEG and UI6 F1T S, older models like UI4 F1T W, and Indesit chest freezers, with the cost confirmed after diagnosis and before work.

  • Food safety first
  • Cost before repair
  • 6-month repair warranty

Independent repair center for Indesit freezers outside the manufacturer's warranty. Tell us how long it has been warm and whether the food has started to thaw.

If the freezer is warming up, keep the door closed to hold the cold in, and move the most important food to another freezer if you can. If a critical temperature alarm shows, Indesit's manuals say the food must not be eaten. If you smell burning, unplug the freezer.

Before you book: 6 checks for an Indesit freezer

These points come from Indesit's manuals and need no tools. Several of them look like faults but are normal behavior.

  • Wait after a power cut: Indesit's BAN 40 FNF manual says the compressor starts about 8 minutes after power is connected or restored. The delay protects the motor.

  • E9 on the display: This is the freezer high-temperature alarm. Check the door is fully closed and nothing is blocking it.

  • Red light on a chest freezer: On OS models it flashes at start-up until the freezer is cold, which can take up to about 6 hours. Add food only after it goes out.

  • Amber or yellow light: Fast freeze is on, and the motor will run nonstop. Switch it on about 24 hours before loading a lot of fresh food.

  • Motor running all the time: A hot room, a door or lid left open, warm food just added, or fast freeze being on all make it run longer.

  • Ice in a chest freezer: Defrost when the ice is 5 to 6 mm thick, using a plastic scraper, never a knife.

Common Indesit freezer faults

Start with what you notice: soft food, a motor that never stops, frost, or an alarm. Causes are listed from most to least common, and a fault in the sealed cooling system is only confirmed by testing.

Not freezing, or food going soft

What you see

Ice cream is soft, meat isn't hard, or the temperature is well above -18°C.

Likely causes

A door that doesn't close or a worn seal, drawers packed so tight that air can't move, or dust on the condenser. After that: a No Frost defrost fault, the evaporator fan, a sensor, a refrigerant leak, or the compressor and its start parts.

Safe to try

Check the door closes and the seal is clean, don't overfill the drawers, keep space around the freezer, and give it a few minutes after a power cut before judging.

Technician

The technician measures the temperatures, checks the defrost system, fan and sensors, and tests for leaks before any refrigerant is added.

Motor runs nonstop

What you see

The compressor never switches off, and the freezer may still not be cold enough.

Likely causes

It's normal after loading warm food, with the door or lid open, in a hot room or with fast freeze on. If none of these apply: a dirty condenser, a sensor fault or low refrigerant.

Safe to try

Turn fast freeze off if you don't need it, close the door, and clean the condenser (at least once a year on OS chest models).

Technician

The technician checks the condenser, the sensor and the refrigerant circuit before deciding on a repair.

Heavy frost in a No Frost freezer

What you see

Ice on the back panel or around the drawers, and cooling getting weaker.

Likely causes

A door seal letting humid air in, or a fault in the defrost system: the defrost heater, the defrost thermostat, a defrost sensor (E3 or E5 on display models) or the control board.

Safe to try

Check the door closes fully and the seal isn't torn. Don't chip ice off with a sharp tool.

Technician

The technician tests the defrost heater, thermostat and sensors, and the fan that moves the cold air.

Alarm sounding or E9 showing

What you see

Beeping, E9 on the display, or a red light flashing on a chest freezer.

Likely causes

The door or lid isn't closed, the freezer is still cooling down after start-up or a power cut, or a lot of warm food went in. If it keeps coming back with the door closed, the freezer isn't holding its temperature.

Safe to try

Close the door, allow up to about 6 hours for a chest freezer to cool after start-up, and silence the alarm with its button.

Technician

If the alarm keeps returning, the technician runs a full check of the cooling system.

Freezer not working at all

What you see

No lights, no motor sound, and the inside is warming up.

Likely causes

The socket, plug or breaker, a power cut, or the compressor's start delay after power returns. After that: the control board, the inverter board on inverter models, or the compressor.

Safe to try

Try another wall socket without an extension lead, check the breaker, and wait several minutes after plugging in.

Technician

The technician checks the supply, the control and inverter boards, and the compressor's start parts.

Ice along the chest freezer lid

What you see

Ice builds up along the top edge of a chest freezer.

Likely causes

Indesit's OS manual lists drain plugs that aren't seated properly and a lid that doesn't close. A worn lid seal does the same.

Safe to try

Push the drain plugs fully in and make sure nothing stops the lid closing.

Technician

The technician replaces a worn seal or adjusts the lid so it closes tightly.

Noises: normal or a fault?

What you see

Humming, gurgling or cracking sounds.

Likely causes

Indesit lists compressor hum, the sound of gas circulating and cracking during defrost as normal. A grinding or knocking noise can mean a fan touching ice or a loose part.

Safe to try

Make sure the freezer stands level and doesn't touch the wall or furniture.

Technician

The technician finds the source of the noise and frees or replaces the fan if needed.

Is the food still safe? What the alarm levels mean

Indesit models with a two-level freezer alarm, such as TAAN 5 FNF, tell you how serious the warming is. A freezer should hold -18°C.

  • Moderate alarm: The freezer has warmed to around 0°C. The manual says the food can be eaten within 24 hours or after cooking.

  • Critical alarm: The temperature is dangerously high, and the manual says the food inside must not be eaten.

  • Keep the door closed: Every opening lets cold out while you wait for the repair.

  • Thawed food: Don't refreeze food that has fully thawed; if you're not sure how long it was warm, throw it away.

  • Tell us when booking: Say whether the alarm is critical or the food is thawing, so we can advise you while you wait for the visit.

Indesit freezer codes and alarm lights

Display codes come from Indesit's official fridge and freezer list; the light signals come from the user manuals. Not every freezer has a display, and meanings can differ by model, so match the code with your model label.

Indesit freezer models we repair

Upright No Frost freezers are what Egyptian retailers sell now. Chest freezers aren't listed new, but many are still in use. Send the model from the label.

  • INU6012CEG

Upright No Frost with 8 drawers, 286 liters and an inverter motor. One Egyptian retailer lists it as made in Egypt.

  • UI6 F1T S

Upright No Frost with 6 drawers and about 222 liters net, as listed by retailers.

  • UI4 F1T W

An older upright No Frost model with 5 drawers.

  • Chest freezers (OS series)

A red light means an alarm, and the green lights show the set level. They need manual defrosting at 5 to 6 mm of ice.

  • No Frost vs manual defrost

No Frost uprights circulate cold air to stop frost forming, so heavy ice inside one points to a fault, not a missed defrost.

Indesit freezer parts

Indesit freezer parts: compressor relay, defrost heater and fan

No Frost freezers have more parts to check than static models: a defrost heater, sensors, an evaporator fan and a control board, plus a motor control board on inverter models. We match each part by model and part number, and tell you its type, source and warranty before fitting it.

  • Compressor
  • Start relay and overload
  • Inverter board
  • Control board and display
  • Defrost heater

Tips to keep an Indesit freezer cold

  1. Keep the freezer at -18°C and make sure the door closes fully every time.

  2. Switch fast freeze on about 24 hours before loading a lot of fresh food, and off again afterwards.

  3. Let cooked food cool before freezing it; warm food makes the motor run nonstop.

  4. Don't pack the drawers so tightly that air can't move around the food.

  5. Clean the condenser at least once a year on chest models, and leave space around the freezer for air.

  6. Defrost a chest freezer when the ice reaches 5 to 6 mm, using a plastic scraper.

  7. Don't stand a fridge directly on top of an Indesit freezer; Indesit says they mustn't be stacked.

Indesit deep freezer repair questions

What does E9 mean on an Indesit freezer?

E9 is the freezer high-temperature alarm on Indesit's official code list. Check the door is closed properly and nothing blocks it; if the alarm comes back with the door closed, the cooling system needs a check.

The red light on my new chest freezer keeps flashing. Is it broken?

Probably not. On Indesit OS chest freezers the red light flashes at start-up until the inside is cold enough, which can take up to about 6 hours. Add food only after it goes out.

Why doesn't my freezer start straight after a power cut?

Some Indesit models delay the compressor to protect it; the BAN 40 FNF manual gives about 8 minutes after power is connected or restored. Wait before assuming a fault, and book a check if it still doesn't start.

Is my food safe after the freezer alarm?

It depends on the alarm level. On Indesit models with a two-level alarm, a moderate alarm means the food should be eaten within 24 hours or after cooking, and a critical alarm means it must not be eaten. Don't refreeze food that has fully thawed.

Why is ice building up in my No Frost freezer?

A No Frost freezer shouldn't build heavy ice. When it does, the usual causes are a door seal letting humid air in or a fault in the defrost system (heater, thermostat or sensor). The technician tests these before replacing anything.

Should I leave fast freeze on all the time?

No. Switch it on about 24 hours before loading a lot of fresh food; the motor runs continuously while it's active. Some models end it automatically, such as OS chest freezers after 50 hours.

Are you Indesit's own service center?

No. We're an independent repair center for Indesit freezers outside the purchase warranty. Egyptian retailers often advertise long warranties on Indesit freezers, 5 years and on some models 10, depending on the seller, so check your warranty card before booking with us.

How much does a freezer repair cost?

The inspection and travel fee is confirmed when you book. The repair cost is given after diagnosis and before any work, since a sensor or seal is a very different job from a compressor or refrigerant leak. The repair carries a 6-month warranty.
