Built-in Indesit microwaves

Indesit Microwave Repair

Indesit microwave repair is mostly about built-in models: Indesit sells its microwaves mainly as built-in units from the MWI series, and an Egyptian retailer lists a 22-liter built-in model with a grill. If yours won't start, runs without heating, sparks or shows Err and a number, send us the model and what happens. The high-voltage parts inside are dangerous even when unplugged, so the safe checks are few and the rest is technician work.

  • No DIY on high voltage
  • Cost before repair
  • 6-month repair warranty

If you see sparks, smoke or flames inside, stop the microwave, keep the door closed and unplug it or switch off its breaker. Don't use it with a damaged door, hinge or seal, and never remove the outer cover: parts inside stay dangerous after unplugging.

Microwave won't start? Checks from Indesit's MWI 120 GX manual

These checks come from Indesit's own manual and need no tools and no cover removal.

  • Plug and socket: Make sure the plug is fully in and the socket works.

  • Door closed properly: Open and close the door, then try again; the microwave won't run unless the door is fully shut.

  • Fuses and breaker: Check the fuse or the breaker for the kitchen circuit.

  • Ventilation: Make sure nothing blocks the vents around the built-in unit.

  • Wait 10 minutes: Then try once more, as the manual advises.

  • Err and a number: This is a software fault. Note the number and tell us when you book.

Common microwave faults (general, all brands)

Indesit publishes few microwave-specific faults, so most of these are general faults found in microwaves of every brand. They're listed from most to least common, and none replaces a test.

Runs but doesn't heat

What you see

The light and turntable work and you hear it running, but the food stays cold.

Likely causes

In microwaves generally: the magnetron, the high-voltage diode or capacitor, a door switch, or the control board.

Safe to try

Check the power level and that it isn't on a defrost program, then test with a cup of water for one minute.

Technician

After discharging the capacitor, the technician tests the high-voltage circuit and the magnetron.

Won't start at all

What you see

The display is dead, or nothing happens when you press Start.

Likely causes

The plug, socket or breaker, a door that isn't fully closed, a blown internal fuse (often linked to a door switch), or the control board.

Safe to try

Follow the MWI 120 GX checks: plug, door, fuses, ventilation, then wait 10 minutes and try again.

Technician

The technician replaces a blown fuse only after finding why it blew, usually by testing the door switches.

Err and a number on the display

What you see

The display shows Err followed by a number, and the microwave won't run.

Likely causes

Indesit's microwave guide says Err plus a number is a software problem.

Safe to try

Note the number and the model, and tell us when you book.

Technician

The technician checks the control board and its connections for your model.

Sparks or a burning smell inside

What you see

Flashes or crackling inside while it runs, or a burnt smell.

Likely causes

In microwaves generally: metal or foil inside, grease on the cavity, or a burnt mica cover over the waveguide opening.

Safe to try

Stop it, unplug it and remove any metal. Once it's cold, clean grease from the cavity with a soft cloth.

Technician

The technician replaces the mica cover and checks the cavity before testing again.

Turntable not turning

What you see

The plate stays still, so food heats unevenly.

Likely causes

The plate or roller ring isn't seated, or the turntable motor or its coupler has failed.

Safe to try

Clean the roller ring and seat the plate and ring correctly.

Technician

The technician replaces the turntable motor or coupler.

Door won't close or latch

What you see

The door springs open, feels loose, or the microwave only starts when you press on the door.

Likely causes

Worn latch hooks, a door switch or the hinges.

Safe to try

Stop using it until it's repaired. Don't hold the door shut while it runs.

Technician

The technician replaces the latch, switches or hinges and checks the door seals.

Why microwave repairs are technician work

A microwave runs its magnetron on very high voltage. Indesit's manual says service must only be carried out by a trained technician and that no cover should be removed.

  • The capacitor holds a charge: The high-voltage capacitor can stay dangerously charged after the plug is pulled.

  • Door and seals matter: A damaged door, hinge or seal is a reason to stop using the microwave until it's repaired.

  • Safety switches: The door switches and the fuse stop the oven when the door opens; they must never be bypassed.

  • Technician's first step: The power is isolated and the capacitor discharged before any part is tested.

Indesit microwave models we repair

Indesit microwaves are mainly built-in. Freestanding Indesit microwaves aren't sold new in Egypt at the moment.

  • MWI series

Indesit's built-in range, such as MWI 120 GX. Err and a number means a software fault.

  • 22-liter built-in with grill

The model an Egyptian retailer sells (listed as MW15213IX), with touch controls.

  • Older or imported models

Repaired by model once we've checked that parts are available.

Microwave parts: magnetron, high-voltage capacitor and door switches

Microwave parts must match the model's power and fittings. We confirm each part by model and part number, and tell you its type, source and warranty before fitting it.

Tips for using an Indesit microwave safely

  1. Never run it empty or with metal or foil inside.

  2. Keep the inside clean; grease on the cavity and the mica cover can cause sparks.

  3. Keep the vents of a built-in microwave clear.

  4. Don't use it if the door, hinges or seal are damaged.

  5. If it stops working, wait 10 minutes before trying again, as the MWI 120 GX manual advises.

  6. Never remove the cover to check a part; the capacitor can hold a dangerous charge.

Indesit microwave repair questions

What does Err mean on an Indesit microwave?

Err followed by a number means a software problem, according to Indesit's microwave guide. Note the number and tell us when you book; the technician checks the control board and its connections for your model.

My Indesit microwave runs but doesn't heat. Why?

In microwaves of any brand, the usual causes are the magnetron, the high-voltage diode or capacitor, or a door switch. These parts are tested only by a technician, after the capacitor has been discharged.

Can I fix my microwave myself?

Only the outside checks: the plug and socket, the door closing properly, the fuses and the ventilation, then wait 10 minutes and try again. Indesit's manual says service must be done by a trained technician and no cover should be removed, because the capacitor inside can hold a dangerous charge.

Is it safe to use a microwave with a damaged door?

No. A damaged door, hinge or seal is a reason to stop using the microwave until it's repaired.

Does Indesit sell freestanding microwaves in Egypt?

Not at the moment, based on Egyptian retailer listings. Indesit microwaves are mainly built-in (MWI series), and a 22-liter built-in model with a grill is sold locally. For an older or imported model, send us the label and we'll check parts.

Are you Indesit's own service center?

No. We're an independent repair center for Indesit microwaves outside the purchase warranty. If yours is still under warranty, contact the provider on the warranty card or the shop you bought it from.

How much does a microwave repair cost?

The inspection and travel fee is confirmed when you book. The repair cost is given after diagnosis and before any work, and for a major part such as the magnetron we tell you if the repair isn't worth it. The repair carries a 6-month warranty.
