Indesit Washing Machine Repair

Indesit washing machine repair starts with the code. Stopped with water inside, showing F05 or F06, or flashing lights on a model with no display? Send the code or a video of the lights, plus the model from the label (on the back, and on the door frame). We read Indesit's official codes for your board generation and quote after diagnosis, before replacing any part. We repair OMTWE, XWE, BWE and IWC front-loaders, the XWDE washer-dryer, and Ariston washers from the same group.

  • Official F-code meanings
  • Cost before any work
  • 6-month warranty on the repair

Water leaking near the plug, or a burning smell? Switch off at the breaker, and don't touch the washer while standing in water. If the door is locked with hot water inside, don't open the door or the pump filter until the water has cooled.

Before you book: 6 checks on an Indesit washer

These come from Indesit's own manuals and need no dismantling. If one of them is the cause, you've saved a visit.

  • Unplug and restart: Unplug for about a minute (the manual) or two (Indesit's service site), then wait 30 seconds after plugging back in before starting. This clears temporary errors such as F01 or F18.

  • Tap and inlet hose: H2O flashing on the display, or the first wash-stage light flashing fast on models without one, means no water is coming in. Check the tap, a kinked hose, low pressure or a blocked inlet filter.

  • Drain hose height: It must sit 65 to 100 cm above the floor and not be pushed too far into the pipe. Any lower, and the washer can fill and drain at the same time.

  • One option light flashing: The option you chose (such as reduced spin or extra rinse) isn't available on that cycle. It's not a fault.

  • Washer switches itself off: That's the standby mode after a while unused. Press ON/OFF for about 3 seconds.

  • New or recently moved washer: Check the transit bolts at the back are out, the feet are level and the washer isn't wedged between cabinets. Indesit lists these as causes of violent shaking.

Common Indesit washing machine faults: find your problem

Note the stage where the washer stops: filling, washing, rinsing, draining or spinning. Causes are listed from most to least common on Indesit washers, and none is a verdict before inspection.

Not draining (F05 or F11)

What you see

Water left in the drum, the cycle stopped before the spin, and the door may not open.

Likely causes

Most often a pump filter blocked by a coin, button or lint. Then a kinked or blocked drain hose, the sink trap, or the pump itself. F11 specifically means the pump isn't getting power, or the board circuit that drives it has failed.

Safe to try

Once the water has cooled and the washer is unplugged, clean the pump filter and check the hose, as described in “Water inside, door locked”.

Technician

The technician measures the pump coil (about 170 ohms on Arcadia boards) and the power reaching it, to tell a failed pump from a board that isn't driving it.

Not spinning, or spinning slowly

What you see

Clothes come out heavy and wet, or the drum turns and stops without reaching spin speed.

Likely causes

Usually the balance protection: the washer tries to spread the load and, if it can't, spins slower. A single blanket or rug is the classic cause. Then too much foam, incomplete draining, spin set to minimum, the motor (brushes and speed sensor) or the board.

Safe to try

Split the load or add small items to the heavy one, use less detergent, check the spin option, and try a rinse-and-spin cycle.

Technician

The technician confirms the drain is complete, then measures the brushes, speed sensor (tacho), motor and board output before blaming the motor.

No water coming in (H2O flashing)

What you see

The cycle starts but no water enters. H2O flashes, or the first-stage light flashes fast on models without a display.

Likely causes

A closed tap or low pressure, a kinked hose, an inlet filter clogged with deposits, or the inlet valve or water level sensor itself.

Safe to try

Open the tap fully, straighten the hose, and try again when the water pressure is better.

Technician

The technician cleans the inlet filter, measures the valve coils, and tests the water level sensor (pressure switch) and its hose.

Door won't open or won't lock (F06 or F17)

What you see

The lock light stays on, or the washer won't start with the door closed.

Likely causes

The door normally stays locked about 3 minutes after the cycle. Longer points to water left inside, the lock itself, clothes in the way, or water on the lock connector. The lock code is F06 on Arcadia boards and the official site, F17 on EVO II.

Safe to try

Wait, and check nothing is caught in the door seal. Don't take the lock apart or force the handle.

Technician

The technician tests the lock and its wiring, checks the connectors for water, and opens the door the right way for the model, without breaking anything.

Not heating, or stopping midway (F03, F07 or F08)

What you see

Cold water on a hot cycle, a cycle that drags on or stops, sometimes with the pump running nonstop.

Likely causes

F03 is the temperature sensor. F07 means the heater draws no current (an open element or a relay). F08 is a heater fault or a stuck relay on the board. Limescale shortens the element's life.

Safe to try

Don't judge the heater by how warm the door glass feels. Photograph the code and note the cycle.

Technician

The technician measures the heater and sensor, tests the relay on the board, then decides what to replace.

Loud noise or banging on spin

What you see

The washer walks across the floor, or a grinding or roaring noise rises with speed.

Likely causes

An unbalanced load, uneven feet, transit bolts, or the shock absorbers and springs. A steady roar that rises with speed is usually the bearings, which on sealed-tub Indesit washers means a new tub assembly.

Safe to try

Stop the cycle if the banging is violent, spread the load and level the feet. Don't try to hold the washer while it spins.

Technician

The technician tells shock-absorber noise from bearing noise, and checks whether the tub is sealed before giving a price.

Dead, or lights acting up (F01, F09, F12 or F18)

What you see

No lights at all, random lights and no way to choose a cycle, or a code that comes back after unplugging.

Likely causes

F01 is a board fault, F09 software or the settings file, F12 no communication between display and board, and F18 a data or communication error with the motor controller. Sometimes it's a connector or water on the wiring, not the board.

Safe to try

Unplug for 2 minutes, plug back in and wait 30 seconds, then try another socket without an extension lead.

Technician

The technician checks the supply and connections first, then decides whether to repair or replace the board. See our Indesit control board repair page.

Water leaking from the washer

What you see

Water under the washer, around the door, or from the detergent drawer.

Likely causes

A torn door seal or something caught in it, a clogged detergent drawer, too much foam, a loose hose or connection, or a leak from the tub.

Safe to try

Switch off the power if water is near the plug, photograph where it appears, and note the stage of the cycle.

Technician

The technician traces the water to its source; where it collects isn't always where it leaks.

Indesit washer with water inside and the door locked: what to do safely

The door stays locked while the lock light is on, and opens about 3 minutes after the cycle ends. If the cycle stopped with water inside, the code is usually F05 (drain not completing) or F11 (pump not getting power).

  • Wait first: If the cycle has just ended, give it 3 minutes for the lock light to go off. Don't pull the handle.

  • Unplug: Before anything else, unplug the washer and put towels on the floor in front of it.

  • If the water is hot: Let it cool. Indesit's manual warns the water coming out of the filter can be very hot.

  • Pump filter: It's behind the small cover at the bottom front. Remove the cover (press the middle and lower it, or use a screwdriver on older models), put a shallow tray underneath and slowly unscrew the filter cap counterclockwise. With a full drum, drain in stages: close it, empty the tray, repeat.

  • Clean and refit: Remove coins, buttons and lint from the housing, screw the cap back clockwise until tight, and refit the cover.

  • Stop here if: No water comes out, the code returns or the door stays locked. It may then be the pump, the hose or the door lock itself (F06 or F17, depending on the board), and needs inspection.

Indesit washing machine models we repair

Send the model even if you know the capacity. The first digits usually give the kilos and spin speed (OMTWE 71252 = 7 kg, 1200 rpm), but boards and door locks differ between generations.

  • Current front-loaders

OMTWE 71252 (7 kg), XWE 81283X (8 kg, display and Push&Wash) and XWE 91483X (9 kg, 1400 rpm), on sale in Egyptian stores according to retailer listings.

  • Innex and EcoTime ranges

BWE and IWC models have lights but no display, so a fault shows as flashing and the technician reads it as a code.

  • XWDE washer-dryer

XWDE 961480X washes 9 kg and dries 6. Drying needs the tap open because it condenses with water, and its own codes are F13 and F19.

  • Older models (IWSC, IWSK, WISL)

EVO and EVO II generations. Same logic, some different codes, and parts availability needs checking.

  • Top-loaders (ITW)

The filter is behind a cover you open with a coin, and F16 means the drum position sensor.

  • Indesit tumble dryers

Not sold new in Egypt now, but still in homes. Clean the condenser monthly and empty the water tank after every cycle, or it stops heating.

Indesit and Ariston washing machines: how are they related?

Ariston and Hotpoint-Ariston washers came from the same Italian group that owned Indesit (Merloni, then Indesit Company). Many use the same EVO, EVO II and Arcadia boards and the same F-codes, so we handle them the same way once we've seen the model.

  • Codes are usually shared: F05 is drain and F08 heater in both brands, but the door lock shows F06 or F17 depending on the board generation.

  • Parts: Many are shared, but compatibility is confirmed by part number, not by appearance.

  • Boards: A new Ariston board, like an Indesit one, arrives unprogrammed and must be programmed for the model.

  • Ariston water heaters are different: They come from Ariston Group, a separate company since 1975, and have nothing to do with Indesit washers.

Indesit washing machine repair cost: what sets the price?

There's no fixed price for “the washer stopped”. Cleaning a pump filter is not replacing motor brushes, a heater or a board, and a sealed tub is a different story again.

  • Before the visit: The inspection and travel fees, and what you pay if you decide not to go ahead.

  • After diagnosis: The parts and labor cost, given before we start.

  • Bearings and the tub: Many Indesit models have a sealed (welded) tub, so when the bearings fail the official fix is a whole new tub assembly, which changes the price a lot. Older models with a tub that comes apart get new bearings and a new spider instead.

  • The board: Repairing the original is usually cheaper than a new board, which also needs programming for the model.

  • If the repair is major: We weigh the cost against the washer's age, condition and parts availability. Not every fault is worth fixing.

Tips to keep your Indesit washer going longer

  1. Use front-loader detergent at the right dose; too much foam causes no-spin faults and leaks.

  2. Clean the pump filter every few months, and empty pockets of coins and buttons before washing.

  3. Don't wash a blanket or rug on its own; add other items so the load balances.

  4. Leave the door and detergent drawer ajar after washing to prevent smells and mold.

  5. Keep the drain hose 65 to 100 cm high, and don't push it all the way into the pipe.

  6. If the power keeps cutting out, unplug the washer until it's stable. With frequent fluctuations, suitable surge protection may reduce the strain on the board.

  7. If the fault returns after a repair, photograph the code, keep the invoice and call us.

Indesit washing machine repair: your questions

What does F05 mean on an Indesit washing machine?

F05 means the drain isn't completing: a blocked drain or a pump problem, according to Indesit's official service site. Once the water has cooled and the washer is unplugged, clean the pump filter and drain hose. If the code returns, the pump probably needs checking.

How do I reset an Indesit washing machine?

There's no reset button. Unplug for one to two minutes, plug back in, wait 30 seconds and start again. This only clears temporary errors; if the code returns, the washer needs inspection.

My Indesit washer door stays locked after the wash. What should I do?

Wait about 3 minutes for the lock light to go off. Water left inside means a drain problem (F05); no water and a lock that won't release usually means the door lock (F06 or F17). Don't force the handle.

My washer won't spin. Has the motor gone?

Usually not. Indesit washers spin slower when the load is unbalanced, and too much foam or incomplete draining also stop the spin. If splitting the load and using less detergent don't help, the brushes, speed sensor and board need checking.

Are Indesit and Ariston washers repaired the same way?

On most models, yes: same group, and broadly the same boards and codes. Parts are still confirmed by number, and Ariston water heaters belong to a different company altogether.

How much does it cost to replace the bearings on an Indesit washer?

It depends on the tub. Many models have a sealed tub, so the fix is a new tub assembly, which costs far more than new bearings in a tub that comes apart. We confirm your tub type from the model and inspection before giving a price.

My washer's board has failed. Should I repair or replace it?

A new board arrives unprogrammed and must be programmed for the model, or the washer shows F09. Repairing the original keeps its programming and is often cheaper. But first we confirm it really is the board, not a connector or another part.

Are you an authorized Indesit service center?

No. We are an independent repair center for out-of-warranty Indesit washers, not part of the company. If your washer is still under warranty, go to the provider on your warranty card or the store. Our repairs carry a 6-month warranty, and the inspection fee is confirmed when you book.
