Water heaters: check the brand first

Indesit Water Heater Repair: Check Who Made Your Heater

Indesit water heater repair is a common search, but Indesit doesn't make water heaters: its official range covers laundry, dishwashing, cooling and cooking. Heaters sold under the Ariston name come from Ariston Group, a separate company. Send us a photo of the rating label on your heater and we'll tell you the real brand and model, then confirm whether we can repair it before you book.

  • Brand checked from the label
  • Gas safety first
  • Confirmed before booking

Independent repair center. We never invent an “Indesit heater” model or code; we confirm the brand from the label first.

Gas water heater: if you smell gas, or feel a headache, dizziness or unusual sleepiness near the heater, turn it off, close the gas valve, open the windows, leave the room and call gas emergency 129 from a safe place. Electric heater: if water is leaking near the wiring or the socket, switch it off at the breaker before touching anything.

Does Indesit make water heaters?

No. Indesit's official catalogue covers laundry, dishwashing, cooling (fridges and freezers) and cooking, and no Indesit-branded water heater is sold at Egyptian retailers. The confusion usually comes from the Ariston name.

  • Ariston heaters: Made by Ariston Group, the former Merloni TermoSanitari, a separate company since the Merloni group split in 1975.

  • Two renames: Merloni TermoSanitari became Ariston Thermo in 2009 and Ariston Group in 2021. It's listed on the Milan stock exchange.

  • Ariston appliances are different: Ariston washers, fridges and cookers came from the same group as Indesit (Indesit Company), which is why the two names get mixed up.

  • No invented models: We don't publish “Indesit heater” models or error codes, since Indesit doesn't make heaters.

How to find your heater's real brand and model

The rating label answers the question in seconds, and the repair depends on it: parts, gas type and safety devices differ by brand and model.

  • Rating label: Usually on the side or bottom of the heater casing, with the brand, model, serial number and either the gas type or the power.

  • Gas or electric: Gas heaters state the gas type (natural or bottled) and output; electric storage heaters state the tank size in liters and the power in watts.

  • Warranty card and invoice: Both show the brand and the seller.

  • Send us a photo: WhatsApp the label to 01050887010. We confirm the brand and model, and whether we can repair it, before you book.

Common water heater problems (general, all brands)

These are general faults found in gas and electric heaters of any brand, not Indesit data. Use them to describe the problem; the repair depends on the real brand and model on the label.

No hot water from a gas heater

What you see

The tap runs cold, the burner doesn't light, or it lights and goes out.

Likely causes

The gas valve is closed or the cylinder is empty, the water flow is too low to start the heater, the ignition batteries are flat on battery models, or the flame sensor, water valve or gas valve is faulty.

Safe to try

Check the gas valve is open and the cylinder isn't empty, open the hot tap fully, and replace the ignition batteries if your model uses them.

Technician

A qualified gas technician checks the ignition, flame sensor, water valve and gas valve, and the flue.

No hot water from an electric heater

What you see

The water stays cold and the indicator light may be off.

Likely causes

No power at the breaker or socket, a thermostat set too low, a failed heating element, or a tripped safety cut-out.

Safe to try

Check the breaker and the indicator light, and make sure the thermostat isn't set to minimum.

Technician

With the power off, the technician tests the element, thermostat and safety cut-out.

Water not hot enough or runs cold quickly

What you see

Lukewarm water, or hot water that runs out much sooner than before.

Likely causes

A low thermostat setting, scale on the heating element or heat exchanger, a tank too small for the household's use, or a failing element.

Safe to try

Raise the thermostat a little and give a storage heater time to reheat before judging.

Technician

The technician checks for scale, tests the element or burner, and descales or replaces parts as needed.

Leaking water

What you see

Drips under the heater, from a pipe joint or from the safety valve.

Likely causes

A loose connection, a dripping pressure-relief valve, a worn seal, or a corroded tank.

Safe to try

Switch an electric heater off at the breaker, close the cold-water supply to the heater, and note where the water comes from.

Technician

The technician replaces valves, seals or fittings. A leak from the tank itself usually means replacing the heater.

Breaker trips or you feel a shock

What you see

The breaker trips when the heater switches on, or you feel a tingle from a tap or the casing.

Likely causes

A damaged heating element, wiring fault or moisture in the electrical parts.

Safe to try

Leave it off at the breaker and don't reset it again and again. Don't touch the heater or taps with wet hands.

Technician

The technician runs insulation tests and replaces the element or wiring before the heater is switched back on.

Gas smell, soot or a yellow flame

What you see

A smell of gas, black marks around the heater, or a lazy yellow flame.

Likely causes

A gas leak, poor combustion, or a blocked or disconnected flue.

Safe to try

Turn it off, close the gas valve, ventilate and call 129 from a safe place if you smell gas. Don't use the heater again until it's checked.

Technician

A qualified gas technician finds the leak or combustion problem and checks the flue before the heater is used again.

Water heater safety: gas, flue and electricity

A gas heater burns gas inside your home, so the flue and ventilation matter as much as the repair. An electric heater combines water and mains power in one appliance.

  • Flue pipe: A flued gas heater must stay connected to a flue that leads outside; never block it or remove it.

  • Ventilation: The room needs a steady supply of fresh air; never run a gas heater in a closed bathroom with no ventilation.

  • Carbon monoxide: Headache, dizziness, nausea or sleepiness while the heater runs are warning signs. Turn it off, open the windows and get everyone out.

  • Gas smell: Close the valve, avoid flames and switches, and call gas emergency 129 from a safe place.

  • Gas parts: The gas valve, burner and connections are work for a qualified gas technician only.

  • Electric heaters: Switch off at the breaker before any check, never touch the wiring or element terminals, and don't keep resetting a breaker that trips.

Questions about “Indesit” water heaters

Does Indesit make water heaters?

No. Indesit's official catalogue covers laundry, dishwashing, cooling (fridges and freezers) and cooking, and no Indesit water heater is sold at Egyptian retailers. The label on your heater shows who made it.

Are Ariston water heaters made by Indesit?

No. Ariston heaters come from Ariston Group, the former Merloni TermoSanitari, which has been a separate company since the Merloni group split in 1975; it became Ariston Thermo in 2009 and Ariston Group in 2021. Ariston washers and cookers are a different story: they came from the same group as Indesit.

Why do some websites offer “Indesit heater” repair?

Some repair websites list every appliance type under a popular brand name. That doesn't mean Indesit makes heaters; your heater's rating label tells you the real brand.

Can you repair my water heater?

Send a photo of the rating label first. We confirm the brand and model and whether we can repair it before you book, and we tell you if we can't.

I smell gas near my water heater. What should I do?

Turn the heater off, close the gas valve, open the windows, don't use flames or electrical switches, leave the room and call gas emergency 129 from a safe place. Book a repair only after the leak has been dealt with.

What are the warning signs of carbon monoxide from a gas heater?

Headache, dizziness, nausea, unusual sleepiness or shortness of breath while the heater runs, especially in a closed bathroom. Turn the heater off, open the windows, get everyone out and seek medical help if the symptoms are strong. Have the flue and ventilation checked before using it again.

Is there an official Indesit hotline for heaters in Egypt?

No official Indesit service number in Egypt has been verified, and Indesit doesn't make heaters. For a heater under purchase warranty, use the warranty card or the seller. We're an independent repair center, and 16062 is our own number, not a manufacturer's.
